For all you Cat Owning Dwellars.....

Was browsing the BBC news site and saw this...

Cats!

xoxoxoBruce 04-27-2004 08:30 PM

Why.....just why?:(

Genetic Savings hopes to be cloning thousands of pets annually in five years, when the cost should be down to $10,000 for a cat and $20,000 for a dog.

I wonder why its less for cats? (I'll probably lay awake all night trying to figure out that one!)

Because cats are smaller, I'm suspecting. We used to cremate animals at the shelter, and cats were cheaper than dogs because there was, well, less OF them.

Elspode 04-27-2004 11:37 PM

This is just fucking stupid. Hundreds of thousands of unwanted cats in the world, and rich morons are going to pay tens of thousands of dollars to clone one of their pedigreed felines?

People who have too much money need to give some to me. At least I wouldn't drag crap out of the litterbox and play turd hockey with it.

I find it interesting that even though the cloned cat will not look like nor have the personality fo the original cat, people want to do it anyway.

I have always had a cat ro cats in my life, and they have all been wonderful in their own unique ways. All one has to do is go to the local animal shelter and rescue a new cat, which is where most of mine have come from. Cost: whatever the cost of neutering the animal.

staceyv 04-28-2004 07:00 AM

if i could afford it, i would clone my chihuahua. he's neutered, so i can't breed him. even if the clone wasn't exact, it would make me happy to know it had his genes. my dog has a very calm, loving, affectionate, and eager-to-please attitude. he doesn't bark, except on command. he never bites or snaps, and he makes cute little noises when he cuddles with me. (he also sleeps under the covers and will burrow under on command when i want him to go to sleep.)
obviously, my dog must be cloned. who wants to help me raise the money??

If I am gonna hand over 10 grand to some kookie scientists to make me a pet I expect at the very least a fucking unicorn.

TheLorax 04-28-2004 09:31 AM

Can I special order one that does not yak up hair balls on the rug directly in front of my bedroom door? If so then I’m in.

Beestie 04-28-2004 10:03 AM

Oops. I thought this might be a recipe thread.

Nevermind.

I'm going to give someone roughly ~$200 at most for a border collie mix like my former dog, and give the dealer $19,800 for that silver Corvette, please.

xoxoxoBruce 04-29-2004 04:23 PM

Hey Uryoces, where and how be you?:)

I'm still here. Haven't been around for a while. Doing relatively okay here in Seattle.
