My favorite British expression is "Bob's your uncle". I read it first on a BBS equivalent of a newsgroup a while ago. Then, recently, it popped up in Pirates of the Caribbean. So maybe it'll catch on here in the U.S. |
My favorite British expression is "Bob's your uncle".
And just what does "Bob's your uncle" meen ???? |
I believe it has something to do with swift and easy completion of some task ... as in "You do this, that, and the other thing, and Bob's your uncle."
I only know of the Eurovision Song Contest through the cultural exchange programme sponsored by Monty Python's Flying Circus ... Bing Tiddle Tiddle Bong, and all that. |
It's worth watching for the voting, it gets pretty funny. You always see all these little countries vote for each other and everyone votes against the big bad countries 'coz they're mean, it's pretty funny to watch.

Aheh Good ol'fashioned Nepotism ....warms my heart that does. I have been using/hearing that phrase all my life and only discovered what it meant about 8 months ago heh.
Ha...what a great page...I had always assumed "lame duck" to be an American expression. Just goes to show y'never can tell. My favourite though is tenterhooks. Dont need to know what it means...to know what it means. hahahahaha Quote:

Eurovision time again!
And as usual I'll be getting drunk and laughing at the ascerbic wit of Sir Terence of Wogan. I can't help it - I love it. Even though I know the songs are dreadful and I'll want to fast forward them as soon as they start. Even though the short films that introduce each song (and are supposed to promote the host country) always try too hard, like they are an end of year project for art students. Even though the partisan voting drives me crazy. I'll still be there! We won't be going anywhere near the Top 10 with ours - I didn't like any of the candidates this year so it's not my fault for not voting! I like the Armenian entry Qele Qele. And on principal I'll support the Czech Republic on my colleague's behalf. My Aussie boss has an Irish mother and an Estonian father - two countries with the worst entrants this year. I look forward to her crowing over me when they both come higher than we do. ETA - Ireland and Estonia crashed out in the semi-finals. I forgot to check as we qualify automatically every year. Fingers crossed Russia doesn't win. Bleurgh. Pretty boy power ballad. I secretly admire the Finns for being so crazy. No hope of a Lordi style victory imo, not quite crazy enough. If you're interested you can view any of them on the BBC Eurovision page. I didn't think it worth linking the YouTube clips for the amount of people that would actually click on them! Suffice to say I won't be entering any of them on the Good Music on YouTube thread. |
