Cellar time is out by 1 hour
 

UT: I have my time zone set to GMT plus 10 (Sydney), but the time shown in the cellar is one hour later than it should be. Does this mean your machine is set to the wrong time or time zone, or is it a bug in vBulletin?

But vBulletin should compensate for that. It is crazy that it does not handle it. The whole point of setting time zones relative to GMT is to remove daylight saving as a factor!

This means that the times will only be correct for a few weeks a year when neither hemisphere is in daylight saving. Crazy! :shotgun:

It's winter down here now, and this year someone came up with the great idea of wearing clothing to keep the cold out! It has made a tremendous difference to us. No more freezing our balls off! :eek:

Bruce, many countries in the world use DST, though the start time varies from country to country.

I knew Europe used it but I wasn't aware Asia, Africa, South America and Australasia did also. It makes sense, just never thought about it.

We've used it for about 30 years. I think it started in GB, and we adopted it soon after they did. I have a feeling that I remember someone saying that it actually started during WWII but was dropped after the war ended.

I had the wrong war, but I am correct about when we adopted it permanently. There was great debate about whether the extra hour would fade the curtains, and make the cows refuse to give their milk on time. Some of our states still refuse to bring in daylight saving, to this day.

We have 3 states that do not observe DST--Hawaii, Arizona and Indiana.

Indiana is really fucking strange. The Chicago suburbs and Evansville are on Central Standard Time and the Cincy suburbs are on Eastern Standard Time...and all 3 areas observe DST. But the rest of the state is on Eastern Standard Time and does not follow DST.

The Navajo nation in AZ observes daylight savings.

DST makes a mess of timezones, shits me right up the wall but there isn't much you can do about it. Frankly it feels like a fiarly outdated concept to me now but I don't keep normal hours anyway.

I was listening to a talk radio program years ago re the pros and cons of daylight savings, and this woman called up all outraged because she thought daylight savings was interfering with the law of God. No shit, she actually thought scientists stopped the earth on its axis twice a year in order to perform the miracle of daylight savings. And these people get to vote in presidential elections. No wonder we're having problems!:rolleyes:
