If your head is covered with dirt, it would be harder to talk than not being covered with dirt.

When you open your mouth to talk, dirt would enter your mouth. After a certain amount of dirt was in your mouth, you couldnt talk at all.

Well, it doesn't look like a cemetery/burial ground so I assume there is no dead person right there.
