Ant Balls
 

You thought they were too small to see, didn't you? This is a real deal when hurricanes (or any type of flood, really) come through the South. I have seen them myself. It is predicted that Hurricane Ivan will produce a bumper crop of these fuckers:

I've never seen that before. Pretty cool. It's floating in stagnant water, isn't it?

I've seen something like this once before in Georgia. Heavy rains came through a caused a large fishing pond on some lightly wooded family property to overflow its shores. After the rains stopped, there were these little globules in the water that were floating in these weird erratic circles. They turned out to be clusters of hundreds of ants, not as big as that one in the picture, but it looked the same. They were clinging to each other and clamboring over each other, each one trying to get to the top of the pile.

Hmmm! so! ... is there natural reduction of personnel with these things? I guess the ones at the bottom just drown eventually, :confused: I've never seen anything like that ... I'm in the UK.

You can't believe everything you see on TV, but... there's an Orkin (pest removal service) ad that's been running in my area for months that says that ants can live up to 2 weeks under water.

Maybe their eggs can live that long under water, but I have a difficult time believing that adults can. If they could live for two weeks underwater, you would think they could live indefinately. But I'm just talking out of my ass.
