10/18/2004: Off-road hearse

http://cellar.org/2004/offroadhearse.jpg

We've had some discussion about SUVs and a few images of weird vehicles on Quality Images, and so here's your basic Land Rover hearse.

The owners, above, say "Having a Land Rover funeral is a unique and very special way for the family to add an individual touch and celebrate that person's life publicly."

They also offer a Land Rover limo service for weddings. Which begs the question... do they mix and match their services? Was your wedding Rover used to cart a dead guy last week?

Can't miss taking a shot at Rover's latest ad campaign in the US. It shows a pair of hitchhiking college students. One's talking about becoming an art hippie... until they get picked up by a couple in a Rover, and are stunned by it, at which point the other says "You could always minor in ceramics."

That's right, boy, the wonder of modern consumerism is a much better dream. The Land Rover will become the replacement meaning of your life... basically, your religion... right up to the day you're carted off in one of 'em.

 Never in my life have a seen a cane basket coffin. Wow that would make it much easier for all the worms to wriggle in and eat that person up. Sorry, I know it's morning and all, but :vomitblu:

Wicker casket because they spent all the $$$ on the Rover Hearse? :skull:

COMPLETELY UNORTHODOX!
Let alone the cane , or wicker casket, unlike any hearse I've ever seen the casket (or should we say coffin) is elevated to the top of the vehicle for all to google. How many times have you seen a hearse and craned you neck to see if "anyBODY" was taking a ride? Hard to tell where I live. Maybe these dumbass country boys down here feel like there should be a little privacy or maybe even dignity at this time. What really pisses me off is it is the wrong f@#*ing color. Of course you see the silver one frequently as of late. What happened to tradition?
When you see a hearse ride by............You will be the next to die..............the worms crawl in, the worms crawl out........pinochle,anyone? :eyebrow:

Radical, yet traditionally styled, it won 'Best Modern Hearse' at the Hearse of the Year competition in 2003.
There's a "Hearse of the Year" competition?! I'm sure there must be other photos from that event that are worthy of image of the day!

Hmm - after a quick google: http://www.google.be/search?hl=en&q=...e+Search&meta=
It seems that the only "serious" mentions of "Hearse of the Year" all point towards the motorcycle hearse. Who thinks they made up Hearse of the Year just to help their marketting?

Wow...now all we need is an aircraft hearse. Maybe a customized bomber that can do a flyby at the funeral and airdrop your casket (in the shape of a bomb of course) into the cemetary. I don't say 'into the grave' because it'd have to be bloody accurate and even the smartest bombs can be off a few feet and that would be...bad for the funeral goers who aren't dead. Yet.

When I first looked at he picture, I agreed with another who said something about the cost of the land rover relative to the wicker casket. However, I saw a program on CNN, where a lady was buiding baskets out of grass that were weived in a similar fashion. The baskets according to size sometimes took a year to be woven by hand. They were very costly with one of her baskets being a third the size of the casket shown. What is the difference between this image, and people driving cadillacs and living in wooden shacks?

By the way, UT, thanks for bringing up the whole "hippie turns corporate lackey" Range Rover ad. I thought I was the only one put off by that.

The other one I like is for diamonds where the husband embarasses his wife in Italy by screaming "I Love This Woman" at the top of his lungs. She comes around, though, when he gives here a whopping huge piece of ice to wear on her finger. THEN she loves him.

I mock that ad every time it comes on. She is no better than a whore.
