Cellar Winter Carnival- or Buffet

I would like to propose a GTG in the winter. Unfortunately, my wife is opposed to large groups of drunken people in my house. I would, however, be willing to contribute a sizable amount of food and my portable BBQ to anyone who would like to open their homes to drunken revelers.

Or we could just pony up $26 each (+$10 for admission) and go to the Longwood Gardens Buffet as a group. Groups of 20 or more can make reservations instead of waiting 45 minutes in line.

They stopped doing buffets on a regular basis, but I still remember a 30 pound fillet of Atlantic salmon in a steam tray covered with herbs and vegetables and unlimited creme brulee for dessert. :notworthy

I thought I would add pictures to display. I also have a short AVI movie of the fountain show.

sounds like fun, depending upon the date, of course.

Maybe we could do a restaurant thing, like we used to do in the old days ... once upon a time we had gtg's once every few months.

What happened to your LOTR party idea, rich? We could do a Star Wars (4-5-6) one too ...

I was thinking about a GTG myself...I wonder how much it would cost to rent the Valley Green Inn in Wissahickon Park.

I'm willing to have folks over...although it's a bit of a drive.

:)

As far as a LOTR party at my house, my wife would need to be convinced that she would not have to end up bearing the cleaning and cooking burden. Since this would fly in the face of years of past experience, this would be a hard sell. A party for people we both know or she has met is doable. A party for unknown weirdos, or worse yet, known weirdos, is a much harder sell.

We might be having a LOTR party sometime, but it will be mostly limited to people who have already been here.

I liked Longwood as a party venue because the gardens are a great destination in winter. If the temperature is above freezing they also have the fountain show which is great in the wintertime. The purely selfish reason I want to go is that with a group of 20 or more I can get into a buffet without standing in a huge line. Also, day or night, it's one of the nicest places in the area. Since I have a frequent visitors pass, I go there a lot. It could take 1-2 hours just to tour the conservatory and house, and seeing the amazing colors indoors is a nice cure for winter blahs.

Also, with a large group, we could pretty much take over a large area of their dining room.

I think we would probably be hardpressed to make the "twenty or more" limit.

elSicomoro 11-28-2004 03:31 PM

Agreed...you have 4 practically guaranteed folks, but getting the rest would be difficult.

Depending on the date, and if I could get crash space, I'd be willing to come. I'm determined to get to at least one CGTG.

I have a house that is relatively secluded and has space for floor-sleepers. My bed is reserved for me and my inflatable gf, uh, I mean, air cushion ;)

Mess would NOT be very noticable and there is a firepit out back for cooking. The neighbors probably would not mind a bonfire either, as long as we don't smoke out their house or anything. Wind usually blows away from them anyway.

Parking is excellent and reservations aren't needed. Problem is, I'm close to Ft Slang. Closer than Dag, but still pretty far for many Cellarites. Figger on a two hour drive from Phila. And ya almost GOTTA take the NE Extension up to Mahoning Valley too.

Weekends are best for me.

I actually have a guest room with full bath in the basement. The only problem is that the basement is colder than the rest of the house. My wife would also need to approve of guests. She knows a few people from the Cellar.

elSicomoro 11-28-2004 06:56 PM

Tell me this menu doesn't sound good.

wolf 11-28-2004 06:57 PM

And hopefully we didn't frighten her too badly ...

elSicomoro 11-28-2004 06:59 PM

Well, I'm always scary, so that's just how it goes...

That was the banquet menu I posted...this is the regular dinner menu.
