Creative Expression

UT and anyone else interested,

I think it would be a good idea to add a topic for artistic/creative expression. There are a lot of talented folks here on the cellar and I would also like to get some critical feedback on some of my art. Is there an interest in that here? A forum dedicated to that might motivate people to share the projects/songs/napkin sculptures they are working on.

Tell me what you think.

It's not a forum, but for the time being there is the Cellar Member Art Gallery.

I guess you're right...I forgot about that thread. Still, it is sort of a pain to have to sift through pages of a thread to find the pieces I am interested in...or to post something of mine, it feels just kind of weird appending such a long thread. I dunno...UT?

Undertoad 01-24-2005 08:19 PM

I'm waiting to see what everyone says.

I'd vote for a subboard under Images. There is a lot of talent to go around in this place!

And, if it does come to pass ... mebbe we could move some of the appropriate threads there, like the woodshop one, and the one I did with the pics of my cross stitch, and the 'art gallery.'

I agree, wolf. Those examples you mentioned are exactly what I was referring to. The only thing is, I don't know if it would be appropriate to put it under images, since there may be folks who want to talk about what their bands are doing or song writing...or even short stories. I guess it really doesn't matter too much where it goes. We could call it the gallery, for simplicity.

Sounds cool to me.

I'm with Wolf....that sounds like the most work for UT. :haha:

OK, I have some concerns about this still. I like the idea but my main concern is that it really does cannibalize from Quality Images. It splits it into two sections: images you had a hand in creating, and images you didn't. It breaks a forum that's very popular right now and that's not something we should take lightly.

Why not just broaden the heading of quality images. I mean come on, there's been an awe-inspiring 17 threads in Health and 34 in Parenting, do we really need another rarely-used forum when Quality Images pretty much fits the bill.

I agree with Happy Monkey. This time. :)

There's a lot of good stuff in that thread that will just fade away if the thread is not regularly appended to. Forums not added to within 30 days start dropping off the radar since most of us default to "threads with activity within the last 30 days" on our user settings. I would hate to see that thread die off.

I think the idea that its too much to sift through or that its too long of a thread has not been a problem historically (see: DooDads/Cool Site of the Day).

If your stuff just won't fit in that thread, there's nothing stopping anyone from starting a new thread.

Creative efforts are not always visual (says the hack musician inside of me). Would you post a new recording, for example, under "Quality Images"? Or a poem?

I don't want to screw anything up, but a creativity forum seems like a good idea to me.

kerosene 01-26-2005 10:57 PM

I was kind of thinking along the same lines as elspode. maybe we should just rename the Quality images thread to something encompassing all kinds of art, that way we can just add to it without losing the quality images already there. It doesn't have to be either for the things we like OR the things we create...it can be both.

OnyxCougar 01-27-2005 05:29 AM

I'd like to post more stories or poems, and right now there's really no place to do that where it seems to fit in...
