Alan Keyes is a compassionate conservative

Via Andrew Sullivan and Oliver Willis, melanin-enriched righty Alan Keyes found out this week that his daughter is a lesbian. In a fine display of family values and conservative compassion, he explained to her that because he takes his morality from Christ, he hates her sin, but he loves the sinner, and understands that all of us face challenges in our struggle to lead an upstanding life, and shared with her his own struggle with sin that all of us share as original sinners.

No, I kid. He actually fired her and threw her out with no means of support.

A couple days ago I got my official two-week warning that I have to be out of this apartment; so finally for real I'm getting cut off. I got no severance or anything like that from my sudden termination of employment (don't I have freedom of speech? the right to protest Bush without losing my job? Hehe... most people would think that working under a parent would be security but for me it's quite the opposite.) and so I definitely don't have anywhere near enough cash to find a new apartment; not even one room rented from someone anywhere. I've been searching craigslist but even places where I'd have enough to pay the first month's rent on some room I never have enough for the deposit as well, so so far I've had no luck at all finding a new home, since shelter requires money. Sad boo.
If you take your moral direction from guys like this, do consider that they are heartless, embarrassing pieces of shit, not upstanding moral Christian examples. I often mourn the left for taking moral direction from Michael Moore and Al Sharpton, but this is just as bad.

Um.

Didn't everybody EXCEPT alan already know this?

I get the feeling this is more political damage control (plausible deniablility) than him worrying about his beliefs.

ah, one more reason to call the right, honorable mr keyes an asshat. nothing to see here, just another "minister" who uses the title for political gain showing why he is in politics instead of actually working in some ministry.

Agree with him or not, it says that he doesn't waver from his convictions. (For the record, I thought he was great on TV, but a looney as a candidate)

The kid apparently never expected the gravy train to run out ... she can't come up with security and rent for a new apartment now that daddy's not paying for everything? She hasn't been working for him for faith in Jeebus up to this point ...

wolf, if he really was sticking to his religious convictions, not his political ones he would have done exactly as UT described in the first post.

Jesus, who Keyes professes to minister in the name of, socialized with prostitutes and criminals. something about accepting and loving the person while rejecting their sinful behaviour.

situations like this are one of the reasons that i reject any politician who uses the title "minister" or "reverend" as a form of credential. they almost always reflect poorly on those who hold their professed faiths dear to them.

Do I think he's right? No. He could have handled this some other way, obviously. But at this point he's not backing down on his gay=bad stance.

Or actually, we assume this is the case.

Not that I doubt the 100% unquestionable veracity of a blog that may belong to the young lady ... has there been any statement issued by dad?

i haven't seen anything. we've only heard one side of this, after all. he may have tossed her not because of her sexual preference but because of other activities that were counter what he was trying to accomplish.

In the excerpt posted there, she implies she got booted for protesting Bush, not for coming out as a lesbian.
