Desperate..
 

So I just dug out two AWESOME old school games, Descent II and Fury 3. The cd's are in good shape, but I can't get either of 'em to run on my XP Home computer.. thus sadness abounds. Any help would be most welcome.

Well you're a little short on details :) but if you right-click on the icon to launch a program, you can enable Windows 95 compatibility mode. It might help.

You can also install in reduced capacity mode as well. I'm not sure of the details though.

Sry for the lack of details, here's what happens: I go to install the game, and a message pops up that states "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application."

That message pops up anytime i try to install either game. I've found the actual game's .exe file, so I've been able to play it off the cd,but only for Fury 3, and I'd still like to install the games because these cd's aren't going to last much longer.

I also tried running them in Windows 95 Compatability Mode, but still no love..

copy the disks to a sub dir on your HD , right click on the .exe file , set it up to run in a dos window , you will have to mess with the settings to make it work , i don't know if the sound will work , but hey any thing good is worth working for !!!
For decent i wish you luck , look for the biggest file that probley has the game code in it , most of those older games liked to create them selfs on the HD , see if you can make it do its do in a dos window , again luck and let us know !!

Ok hopefully this is just user error.. I copied both cd's successfuly to the HD, but I'm still having trouble with them. When I try to run MSDOS (by going through Start/Run/CMD) howveer, i can't go from the root (C:\), it shows "C:\Domcuments and Settings\P-Money>" . So any line command that I enter starts with that, and I can't get rid of it. I'm not too savvy when it comes to DOS anyways, so any help with that would be awesome.

That should take you to the root , as it c:\
are you opening a dos prompt window ?? or just trying to run then from the start / run menu ?? also what Operating system are you useing ???

I use XP Home edition, and I'm opening a DOs window through Start/Run/CMD. But when I do so, it opens the DOS window, but with an uneditable root of C:\Documents and settings\P-Money> like anything that I want to put in the command line has to come from that source, and I can't make it JUST from c:\ like i need to.
