Wheaton's eBay auction
This, I think, is morally wrong.
I mean.. since when are autographs a business?? Could there be any more direct example of selling your own fame? Well..that's how this auction strikes me. It's just crazy! But, since I really think Wil is cool, what do you guys think of this? Someone please disagree with me, so i'll know all is ok in the world. |
Eh? Well, I don't necessarily think that it's morally wrong.
Hell, I don't even think that it's very wrong for an actor to cash in on his or her image. I mean, that's part of what they're paid for, isn't it -- image? I don't see anything wrong at all with him selling an autographed picture, if people want to buy it. The way it comes off to me: People have been bugging him for fan collectible memorabilia, so he's giving them a chance to have it. I don't think the objective is the money as much as it is doing something for the fans. Maybe I'm looking at things through rose colored glasses, but that's how I see it. I'm sure there's much more lucrative things he could do for money. (Then again, that auction IS at $372...) |
Well, baseball players sell their autographs at card shows, so I don't really see much of a difference here. Granted, I won't pay for them, but there will certainly be people that will.
Bidding ended at $510. Wil Wheaton is a good actor...but not worth that much. |
$510 for an autograph...holy geez..

That's it...
I'm going to sign a picture of myself and sell it on eBay. I figure I can get at least $50. ;)
