Wolf, I need your assistance...

No, not like that, things aren't bad enough yet, wait for it.

I'm trying to find an electronic version of the DSM or a place where they describe the submission guidelines for new disorders.

Any ideas?

DSM IV Codes and descriptions listed by both number and alphabetically?

Troubleshooter 04-18-2005 09:08 PM

I already tried that and it gives me a dead link.

Elspode 04-18-2005 09:16 PM

That's odd...it takes me to the codes listing (well, the alphabetical one, anyway...I didn't try the Numerical Codes link).

Okay, do you need just a listing of diagnoses and codes, or do you need the diagnostic criteria for each?

As far as the submission process ... I haven't seen my full size DSM-IV (aka "The Big Book of Crazy") since I took Psychopathology in grad school. I keep the "desk reference" (a wirebound mini version that has all the criteria and the codes, but leaves out a lot of the extraneous information). I also have the DSM-IV Casebook, which gives you a case presentation and then you have to figure out the diagnosis and differential diagnosis.

I checked the desk reference and it doesn't discuss the submission criteria. I kinda remember reading about it in the full size edition at one point. If I can't find mine I can check it at work tomorrow.

well, this was easier than I thought ... DSM-V "prelude".

wolf 04-19-2005 12:34 AM

Apparently the American Psychiatric Association does not take kindly to people sharing the information in the DSM-IV unless they spend $83.50 plus S&H for the book ...

Troubleshooter 04-19-2005 09:52 AM

Do they offer it on disk?

wolf 04-19-2005 12:15 PM

Probably. I didn't check. I'm old fashioned and tend to like my books as books.

Troubleshooter 04-19-2005 01:06 PM

They compliment each other well. Use the electronic to do searches and to prepare lists of documents and then read it in the book when you're away from the PC.
