LIVE-8 Philly

These pictures were posted here by a guy named HughE2030 that lives near the Art Museum. I stole them just for you. I wish I knew the dude...especially today.

July 1st was sound check day in Philly.
Hot and humid then violent thunderstorms with record lightning.
There are two fountains that look like mexican hats across the street from the Art Museum steps that Rocky made famous and where the stage is set up. You can see people hiding under the fountain overhangs during the lightning storm. Hardly safe to say the least. :worried:

After the storm...BonJovi sound check. :)

Wrapped up and ready to go in the morning.

Fuck Live8.

Geldof should just shut the fuck up and let people play music. Him, Don Henley, Bono, and all the rest of the supposedly politically aware performing monkeys.

When Geldof guilted Ebay into stopping the sales of the tickets he proved he really has no idea about how money works.

If this thing breaks even I'll be more than a little surprised. If they were THAT enlightened they'd just give the money and milk it for publicity instead of insuring an overall gain of near zero.

Well I was planning to go to Drivesports, which is near the Art Museum at 26th and Pennsylvania, to participate in the free skating lessons sponsored by Rollerblade. It didn't happen... I showed up at 10:30 to take the R5 from Overbrook and found about 40 people there, mostly from St. Josephs I'd guess. By the time I gave up and went home (after two trains blew by without even thinking about stopping, I assume because there was no room), there were well over 100.

I didn't realize they were trying to make money. I thought the plan was to make people aware so they would pressure the G-8 people to forgive the African debt.
How are they going to make money? TV rights and album sales?
In the deal between Philly and Electric Factory Promotions the city says they hope to break even but I'm sure EFP is doing better....they always do.

Wolf, if you talk to him, tell him I stole his pictures. Most of the people posting pictures post contact info (email) but HughE2030 doesn't.

The musicians may not be worried about the money especially, which is kind of stupid if you think about it, but their mast... er sponsors and producers are a different story entirely. They could give a fuck about Africa. How many people buy CDs in Africa?

For their masters, the benefit of Live 8 was mucho free publicity.

I guarantee you Pink Floyd will sell another five million albums after today. Hell, I'm gonna buy two or three myself.
