Google does it better

The idea is simple. It’s a globe that sits inside your PC. You point and zoom to anyplace on the planet that you want to explore. Satellite images and local facts zoom into view. Tap into Google search to show local points of interest and facts. Zoom to a specific address to check out an apartment or hotel. View driving directions and even fly along your route. We invite you to try it now.
A 10.3Mb download that works great. No spyware that I can detect. It even gives you the gps coordinates and elevation of what you're looking at. And of course it's dragable.
I like it. :D

It's pretty awesome. Check out 35°38'14.07"N 139°45'22.96"E, for an odd highway in Tokyo.

This is the coolest app I have seen in a long time. It's like being Superman flying around and carrying a library.

I was able to get the elevation of my house above sea level, which was something I was curious about.

It popped up traffic webcams I didn't know were in my area.

BTW, you want to enter coords as 35.381407, 139.452296

I wouldn't bet on the elevations, Rich. As I go from the creek up the backyard to the house the elevations go down. They are ballpark, though, I'm being pretty picky here.

This really IS cool.. Quite amazing to say the least. Sure beats hell outa the old Microsoft Terra Imager I have used. Any more clarity would be an invasion of privacy, Allthough I would love it. I think I'll go buy a huge monitor today. Thanks, Bruce...... :thankyou:

No, the calculation isn't quite that easy. I just figured out how to reset the coordinate system to decimal instead of degrees/minutes/seconds, so I'll post the updated values when I get home.

Just copy and paste HM's location and put a comma between the two values.

capnhowdy 08-01-2005 01:47 PM

you can use N and W with a space, if you know the coords......at least it worked for me.

Happy Monkey 08-02-2005 06:35 AM

OK, here it is converted to decimal. Lat/Lon: 35.637242, 139.756379

I'm disappointed in the clarity of some areas. My house and the areas around Philly, you can zoom in on individual homes and identify them. Other areas of the country you can only see neighborhoods. lancaster County, PA, western MA and Kansas are a some I've found lacking. I guess they spent their money on the keyholes.

Yeah. I tried to find Tent Rocks, but it was just outside the high-res area. Too bad. It would have been an interesting view. The Grand Canyon is awesome, though.
