Oh what a Barred and twisted place we live in

Barred Spiral Milky Way

and we thought we were a mere spiral

Well, now...that's something new fer sure!

I feel a small swelling of pride knowing that we are denizens of a barred spiral galaxy. Plus, it will make it that much more aesthetically pleasing when the Andromeda Galaxy slams through the middle of us in several billion years.

No wonder why I always so dizzy.

BigV 08-25-2005 10:01 AM

Seems we even have our own brand of bread. [/ssssssss]

Happy Monkey 08-25-2005 10:16 AM

Is the bar to keep others out, or to keep us in?

It's to serve the drinks on, ya goof.

Happy Monkey 08-25-2005 11:19 AM

Ah, for a Gargle Blaster that is truly Pan-Galactic.

Are you sure you're not visiting from a lenticular galaxy? Perhaps the Sombrero? Because sometimes you are sooooooo unique, I can't believe you're from ours. Thank you for the astral entertainment.

BigV 08-25-2005 12:44 PM

Sorry, my fish fell out. Who were you addressing, miss?

Queen of the Ryche 08-25-2005 03:15 PM

Giddy Simian. Sometimes his posts are either way too intellectual or way too sci-fi for me to understand.

Happy Monkey 08-25-2005 03:23 PM

Here's the reference. :drunk:

(and here's BigV's reference)

And both references are from here.

I sooo have to read that book. Is the movie any good/true to the book?

Happy Monkey 08-25-2005 03:40 PM

It's very true in spirit, but there are lots of differences. Of course, every time Douglas Adams adapted the story to a new format, he made changes, so that was to be expected.

As for whether it is any good, I enjoyed it a lot. I'm not sure whether it would work well for someone unfamiliar with the story, though.

Queen of the Ryche 08-25-2005 03:41 PM

okay. so I 'll read the book first. I think I still have my dad's copy somewhere - I've just never been a big sci-fi reader, but I'll give it a go.

Don't worry about that.

It's a humor piece, dressed up in SF's clothing.

Always know where your towel is.
