Did I hear right today on the news while driving to work?

The BBC are usually pretty good at their reporting (well, forgetting the hoo-haa over the sexing up of the UK governement case for invasion of Iraq), and this morning they reported that GWB said that God told him to invade Iraq, even called him by his first name (I think that's God calling George by his first name, and not vice-versa).

Georgy-boy, being the devout Christian he is, could hardly disobey God now, could he....

Well that makes the whole invasion enterprise all right, doesn't it. Thank God(sic) for that. All those exit problems and loss of life have been sanctioned by the Almighty himself - well done, George, after all, who can possibly argue with the Supreme Being??

This does not surprise me in the least. George is suffering from some sort of alcohol and cocaine induced dementia. Either that, or he's been dead for years and his whole administration has been one big Weekend at Bernie's type deal.

I always have to remember that with many people I have a *lot* of influence and with many people I have next to none.

Allah was just making the same point on the phone the other day.

Sometimes you just cant win. Everyone wants signs. "Give me a sign, God...should I [insert whatever you like here]"?

I hear this all the time and often just set my auto-prayer-reply as something along the line of "use your best judgement" or maybe "Let the force guide you"*. Many times I have other things going and cant actually give a personal reply to everyone.

I have a life, so sue me.

In this case, there must have been something good on TV or maybe I was trying to be funny and gave a somewhat confusing message back to W. In certain cases in the past I have given suggestions back as a joke, some of which they have taken seriously, for example:

W: ahh...God....should I invade Iraq?

God: [heavy sarcasm] If you were really smart.....you would [/heavy sarcasm]

So in this case the whole Iraq situation might have been started because of timing. When Survivor is on, I give wiseass replies.

Hey, God! I thought you were supposed to be omnipresent! That means present in all places in all times in case you skipped class the day that was covered in Theology 101. So, in theory, you could hear prayers and watch "Surviver" at the same time. Not to be sacrireligous or anything. :eyebrow:

Turns out the story came from a BBC Press Release hyping an upcoming special and was first reported in a June 25, 2003, Haaretz article (see last paragraph).

Great reporting, huh? If it's a top story, they were only two years and four months behind it.

It's a bit of a catch 22, isn't it? A story gets no play when Bush is popular and now that he isn't, the story's old.

I'm pretty sure this story did come out years ago, but only on liberal sites.

So why he would make such a statement to Abu Mazen and not to anyone else?

Allah told Mohammed to fight a whole lot of people, including his own tribe, whom he had to wipe from the face of the earth over some perceived slight. To Mohammed.

Islam is pretty ego-centric in that regard. Mohammed changed behavioral codes that had earlier "been written" pretty much to suit himself and his needs. Allah told you you could only have one wife? Couple chapters later, Allah says it's okay to take as many as you like. Allah says to make truce with the Qayrash? All right, except that because of some loophole the Qayrash didn't know about and also didn't violate, the truce is void and Qayrash may be slaughtered unarmed.

There are also, I have learned, writings beyond the Quran that amend or change information in the Quran.

If you help me I will act, and if not, the elections will come and I will have to focus on them."

This sounds a lot like "we have to go kick Saddam's ass before he gets us with those WMDs...what...no WMDs? Um...well, we had to go kick his ass because he's evil."
