11/28/2005: Beer mat art exhibit
http://cellar.org/2005/pumpum.jpg
IotD always enjoys art of the commoners, and there isn't anything much more common than your basic cardboard beer coaster. This bar in Spain has accepted a collection of artistic works involving cardboard beer mats, which leads to their online gallery of submissions, a webpage that scrolls entirely horizontally. Sure, I hate that too, but the gallery is interesting and I guess you can think of yourself as walking down the bar to look at them. The above item is from that exhibit, an entry from Argentina. Many of the other entries are much more involved and sophisticated, but even the simple pen and ink stuff is highly stylized and fun to look at. |
Good find, well worth the horizontal scroll. :)

amazing talent
You can almost tell where the artists live by their different styles and colors. Me likes. |
here you can find the right beer-glass to your favourite beermat.
click "Produkte" / "Alle Kollektionen" / then choose Bier or Seidel or Weizen or Schnaps or anything you like. (or click on the tiny english flag to understand) :yum: |
Where, rupip?
|
"Oh no! I see dead rabbits!"
|
I don't get it.

I like the glasses/ crockery better than the beermats. They were a little freaky for my taste.
Although I liked the swirly blue by Failed Rock Star (the most conservative beermat there?!) and the American Gothic pigs by Solotalent. Which just goes to show you can't go wrong with pigs in dresses. |
There seems to be a recent surge in art depicting cute, fuzzy animals as demented little imps. If I was in college, I'd write a paper about it. Is it just that this generation of warped artistes was raised on Pokemon? Or are slavering, demonic chipmunks iconic somehow? Either way, I want a tshirt with the "I see dead bunnies" graphic on it.

Nice glasses, rupip.
Even one for UT. :D |
