bandwidth-related dinner conversation

Just so you can all share in the excitement and humor. :headshake

Scene: Restaurant with Mrs. Dallas, the kidlets, and Mr. and Mrs. Friend.

Me: [pseudo-amusing anecdote about how I ended up with 2 sales reps from competing ISPs visiting my office at the same time when one showed up late and the other showed up early]

Everybody else: [murmured expressions of mild amusement, veiled intimations that they might be starting to be sorry they asked how my day was]

Me: [further anecdote about 3rd ISP salesdroid who told me they didn't offer anything faster than a T1 and if I needed more they could sell me two T1s and I could do some kind of load balancing on my own]

Mr. Friend: Wait, they don't have anything faster than a T1??

Mrs. Friend: You had more than that at your fraternity house in college! [This was > 5 years ago, so much more impressive than it would be today]

Mr. Friend: True, we had a T3.

Mrs. Dallas: Well yeah, but it was MIT--what do you expect?

that reminds me of a story.

one day, I got in my car to ride to work, and started it up. I drove there, and it took like an hour or so, and when i got there, I turned the car off and went inside and got right to work. yeah.

Reminds me of a bunch of stories I heard over Christmas. I love hearing details about other people's jobs when I'm on vacation.

I had partial T3 back at college in 1999... I didn't think T3 was anything special for a Uni... or did I miss something?

Why wasn't this posted in the humor Thread?

It's not a joke, or even humorous, just a cute anecdote about a trunk line, which has to do with the internet.

I'll take an OC-3 please, table 2. Thanks. That's enough to max out the data transfer of my slowest 40gb hard drive, 5400 rpm, running at udma3 mode.

Watch out boys, or I'll beat yah with my cane.

I had one paper terminal for my whole dorm with a dial up connection to a mainframe using a 300 baud acoustic coupler modem.

That's ok, I sure SD understood my humor. :p

SteveDallas 01-13-2006 12:39 AM

If it was humorous you should have posted it in the humor thread. :biggrinha

xoxoxoBruce 01-13-2006 09:47 PM

I'll get you for that......I'm putting a hex on your scanner. :p
