I hope that pic was taken through the rear window of the car. lol Awesome picture!

I've been iknown to drive hurriedly to the place where a tornado has been reported. Never got to see one on purpose, but it is the kind of thing I'd love to do.

Welcome to the Cellar, Wally. :D
We always have room for one more crazy SOB. You're crazy, you know?
Didn't your mother tell you you're supposed to run THE OTHER WAY?

Great picture!

I opened the post with trepidation, wondering if perhaps it referred to chubby-chasers....

Awesome! The sound of wailing sirens still sends a chill through me. Down here, no one understands why.

As for chasing, that isn't an option since I live where I do, now. The damage path on the storms I see tends to be wide enough that the only option is for the storm to chase you!

Nope. I'm a runner.

Living in Kansas for the last 15 years I've seen plenty of wall-to-wall wall clouds but I've only seen 1 tornado -- in Colorado. And it was struggling to rise from dust-devil stage to F1 category. But if there are warnings, I'm headed to the basement (not The Cellar ;) )

Thanks to all for the warm and enthusiastic welcome - much appreciated.

Heh - in the photo above, you are actually looking at less than half of the tornado. This is the most dramatic I have ever seen. I wish I could say it was mine, but alas, it is not. I'm a couch chaser now - too old to run like hell anymore. :sniff:

If you liked this pic, here is another that should make you pucker - as dramatic a wall cloud as has ever been seen (by me anyway),

Here is a photo of the April 10, 1079 F4 tornado that nearly destroyed Wichita Falls, Texas. Diameter at ground level is nearly 1.5 miles.

I see you've upgraded your photo gear since then. BTW, I didn't realize that one could get film or cameras in 1079. Also, was Texas even a state back then?
;)

It's a little known fact that a few years after conquering England good old Billy Norman took a swim and founded Texas. Then Mr. Norman took a piss which created the Grand Canyon.
