Black Friday

A line in this article on our local News site made me snigger a little:

Quote:
Chat with shoppers who look like they’ve been camping out in line for hours. Consider asking why they didn’t just work some extra hours and pay for a full-priced TV.

That's funny. It's such an obsession!

Me? I won't go near anywhere I don't have to on Black Friday. *shudders*

I avoid painkillers like the plague -even after surgery. But only because beer is more fun

You enjoy life too much for those. The pain meds are all about "Just say NO to life"

Was it arthroscopic or open?

You besmirch me?

Painkillers are all about "Just say NO to pain."

And YES to constipation.

Cor that didn't take long did it?

So back to topic, I've never done Black Friday or Mauve Thursday before, but I got up at 5 this morning (Thursday) to score an Xbox something thingy package from Meijer (Sales started 6am, lines started midnight). I said to beest "oh I'm always awake at that time, I might as well give it a try......" not this morning..... I had to haul myself from my pit and wish I could go back but it's light now, so you're stuck with me....

anyway........

got in line about 5:45........

by the time it started moving the line was 3 times as long as when I joined....

the woman in front of me got the last one in the pile.....

.....and they fished the one out of the display case for me.

*phew*

all else were disappoint. I didn't dare look behind me as I swiped my card, then I slunk away with my purchase in a black bag like an alky with their paper bag

I was all kind of meh about my chances, but as I got right to the head of the line and realized I was almost there and they actually were running out it all got a bit nerve-wracking....

The store assistant who served me then announced over the tannoy they had sold out was obnoxious, exclaiming loudly afterwards that she got so much satisfaction out of telling everyone they were SOL or words to that effect.

I think people who camp out for a 30" TV's or any other material goods are total idiots, what a statement about what our society has become.....

When I hear the term "consumer price index" I see that we have become a country of consumers, not citizens.

The health of our country is measured in how much crap we buy, not our involvement in our respective communities. It's a simple thing, really.

Suppose the news commented on how many cozy blankies were made by moms for their daughters this week, or how many kids and parents went camping, hunting, fishing together this week or how many elderly people were helped out by their younger neighbors this week?

I guarantee, mindless sheep that we are, that after a short while people would be trying to out do one another with acts of community building. I'd bet crime would go down too.

That being said, nice score on the last xbox, monster. Just think though, if you were up that early you probably could have gotten a nice buck. Just sayin'

I already made my daughter a blankie this month.

Scored again today. At the more civilized time of 9am. 30% off Thor's new hockey stick and a $25 gift card for being one of the first 25 Shoppers at Play It Again Sports. We were shopper #7 at 9am, I reckon the cards probably lasted another 10 minutes. (I nearly bought the stick on Weds when I was in the store, but decided to wait and make a special trip to get the discount and the card.) We do a lot of shopping there, so worthwhile for us. Although we really really should be all kitted out for the season now. We just had to buy Hector a huge bag, it was a shame we couldn't wait until today to get the 30% off that.

OK back to the cleaning..... and the festive winter lights.
