Gadget du jour

Start with a Korean handheld game system, similar in size to a Game Boy Advance, but with a bigger screen, called the "GamePark GP32."

Make its processor run at speeds of up to ten times faster than the GBA. (GBA == ~14 MHz, this system == up to 130+)

Make it use SmartMedia cards as its storage space, with a USB connection for transferring computer files.

Give it MP3-playing capabilities out of the box.

After installing certain software, give it DIVX/AVI/MPEG movie playback capabilities with a reasonable framerate.

Make it OPEN SOURCE... so that along with its own small and idiosyncratic lineup of games (which are mostly in Korean), emulators allow it to play games for the TurboGrafx/PC-Engine, NES, Spectrum, MSX, Sega Master System/Game Gear, C64,
LucasArts SCUMMV (think Monkey Island), WonderSwan, Game Boy, Game Boy COLOR and other systems, along with some arcade and SNES titles, Doom, Heretic, Descent and others

Price it at around $150 and set it loose on an unsuspecting world.

Damn, that sounds VERY impressive. Still... cool as it is I'm thinking I'll wait for portable DVD players to come down a bit more.

me buy

Yo,

This looks good. I want. Emulators on a real game machine.

And it takes standard media.

And the battery lasts longer than my iPAQ.

If they release at Atari 2600 emulator for this thing, I am SO buying one of these. Feel the fat-pixel retina-burning love, baby.

Given the high processor speed, I can't imagine that someone won't port PCAE or STELLA to it sooner or later.

There is a 2600 emulator for PocketPC out there already, if you're jonesing for portable Combat.
