Cairo

This may be an example of why the west is not well liked in the middle east. This phone book could be from Britain or the US. In English, american and British companies. I had to read the cover to find out it wasn't Cairo, Illinois.

Well, the UK had its hand in Egyptian affairs until after WW2, so this isn't completely surprising.

True story, follow along closely please. I made a car payment, was fucking around with some home made labels. I sent the letter to Car People, PO box XXX, 54702, I actually WENT TO THE POST office, its final destination in other words, so my screwey return label had 54703, my name and my address.

I sent it to:

Car payment people
123 street
Eau Claire, WI

Got busy with something and forgot the zip code, car people called me up, threatened me with castration, sent another check.

My car payment came back 4 MONTHS LATER, unable to deliver stamps, from CAIRO EGYPT, via 54702, where it all started, and where it belonged, to Car People, P.O. Box XXX, Eau Claire, WI 54702. Lts of stains and tobacco smoke etc.

You're right Syc, it's not surprising. It's a reminder of how heavy handed the west was, dealing with the middle east.

I don't disagree with the general sentiment of your post, but I don't think this is one of the reasons why. At the time, the British may have been the only ones using telephones there. Or, it may have been the British and the Egyptian upper class. The US and UK may have done the same thing over in Iraq.

I sent a letter to my parents in Innsbruck, Austria. Should have taken a week. It took over a month, and had postmarks on it from Australia.

Idiots at the US post office need a globe.
