What are you afraid of?

Besides spiders (shudder), the main thing I am afraid of is:

RBS

Random Bad Shit.

You know--RBS is the awful shit that happens to people. The kind of thing you hear in the news that you hope never happens to you. The kind of thing no preventative or preparation can avert. Like backing over your toddler in the driveway. Getting cancer of the pancreas. Having a tornado flatten your home. Getting in a freak accident which leaves you incapacitated.

And mostly, I'm afraid not for myself, but for my children.

I'm afraid one of these days people will notice that my veneer of competence is completely fraudulent.

We discussed unreasonable fears here. There may be some overlap (I am unreasonably scared of being impaled or stabbed through the throat or cheek).

I am also occasionally afraid of mirrors or reflective surfaces. Nothing to do with my appearance - I just find them creepy. The films and books that distress me the most are the ones where things appear in mirrors or reflected in the windows of dark rooms.

Right here, in a well lit office, I have physically shuddered just typing this.

Snakes, fire, spiders and other crawly things, but not happy friendly ones like ladybugs and lightning bugs, even if they are just roaches with personality, falling.

Oh, yeah. And Clintons, including George.

All-You-Can-Eat buffets.

Being eaten by an alligator, shark, or similar.

Wood spiders (any big spider, really)

Being alone.
Dark closets with the door open a crack when I'm trying to sleep.
Being laid off.

I actually like spiders, snakes, etc. And heights.

i read RBS as "red back spiders".

ummm. the only thing that really scares me these days is not fulfilling my life purpose. im not saying that in a corny interview for a job kinda way. it actually has made me rip a hole in my pillow with my teeth while trying to sleep because i was so scared.
