Bill Whittle says bin Laden is dead
Bill Whittle is an essayist with a bloggy site called "Eject Eject Eject", which is highly pro-US and pro-Bush and all full of WoTy goodness. He tries to convince us to vote Bush -- which failed, for me -- but in the middle of it, he makes a pretty strong case that bin Laden is dead. I was convinced, it's at least an interesting take on it.
I've taken this bit out of the whole two-part essay because Mr. Whittle is extremely long-winded. The following is very long-winded too, but I think he needs all that text to set up his point correctly. (The bigger essay is here and that link doesn't even include part one.) Quote:

The man's opinion in that clip does make sense, I'll give him that. Also, it makes a great set-up for Bush to make a 'surprise' announcement of the capture/death of Bin Laden a shortly before the election. That alone would more or less pull the rug out from under Kerry's "Bush has forgotten about Bin Laden, the guy we ORIGINALLY set out to get." stance that he made such a strong point on during the first debate.

I agree. If it's strategically important not to announce last year, it's strategically important not to announce next week.

On another note, I find Bill's comments regarding the New York Times editors to be moderately ironic... he condemns news sources who reveal strategic secrets, in an essay where he believes he himself is doing that very thing. Small moral requirements for small news sources, eh?

His post is speculation and we can speculate about it all day, but that won't make him a martyr.

His "speculation" certainly can't be dismissed out of hand. true or not he makes a good case. Thanks, UT.

Where's the body?
People have claimed bin Laden dead or captured with as good reasoning times before, followed by evidence (tapes) surfacing that he wasn't. I won't believe he's dead until either they find the body, or W. swears on a stack of bibles that he's not.

Found out an interesting little theory yesterday in my Non-Western History class here at good ol OU.. Apparantly one well known middle eastern scholar is pointing to the current translation of the Koran into Islamic as flawed and that martyrs WON'T be getting their 79 or whatever virgin.. instead, they might get 79 kinds of fruit and other highly desireable foods. Apparantly, the language that the Koran was origionally written in said differently than the Islamic version they got now. The guy backs it up by showing that in descriptions of hell, the Koran goes into great detail as to what "hellish" foods you will have to eat and he cites a lack of the same kinds of food descriptions in the Islamic version as a sign of a mistranslation from fruit to virgins.
I'll get a bit more info for ya'll in this monday when we have class again.
