Mulberry tree
We have a Mulberry tree in our back yard. I've always viewed it as kind of a pest (hey, that gives me an idea) because the berries fall all over the ground and then you track them into the house on the soles of your shoes even if you wipe your feet. Plus the birds come and shit their black mulberry shits all over everything.
I've eaten a berry or two off the tree and they taste fine. Not great like a raspberry or blackberry, but not too bad. Has anyone here ever done anything with mulberries or know what sort of thing I might be able to do with them? I'm hoping to change my perception of this tree as being a pain in the ass for two or three weeks out of the year to being a bountiful provider of food for my family. I'm assuming I can spread some old sheets on the ground or even get up in the tree on a ladder and pick berries. But then what should I do with them? Does anyone here have any experience with them? OMG - Mulberrys are great to eat! Freeze them, then eat them as a nice cold snack, put them on your cereal or even make jelly/jam with them - even wine.
Wait, no they aren't any good - just get a bunch and ship them to me. I'll discard them for you.

Jelly + Donut = Jelly Donut
You can also get an enormous jar, fill it with clean berries and then fill it with vodka. Put it in a dark place for several months, then pour off the vodka into a clean bottle. Mash the berries and let the remaining liquid drip through some muslin. May take overnight or quicker if you have a press. Add sugar or not. nice taste.

I did a search on mulberry tree and found out that's what we got here. Unfortunately, it got so dirty (all those berries being stepped on as Glatt pointed out) that someone chopped the tree down.

Update:
I didn't do anything with the mulberries, and now the tree has stopped producing them for this season. |

lol - seriously glatt - get the kids out there next year and collect a few pints. Freeze them and you'll all enjoy a nice sweet healthier treat outta the freezer.
