It's interesting watching the differing perception of what is a 'democratic' system across the world and through history. After all, Singapore is 'democratic' as well. Debates between the merits of things like representative verses participatory democracy and all the debates that rage within and around will go on until the end of human existance.

The most interesting thing about the Iraq situation for me is the way that from a military perspective it is virtually identical to Afghanistan. Easy victory but not a conclusive victory followed by a long period of slowly growing gurilla resisitance. Watching recent events in Afghanistan and the upcoming review by the Aust. military about whether to send our SAS guys back in to Afghanistan to help out. A similar issue seems to be the case with the rapidly forming Iraqi resistance, time will tell.
