understood. I took it at face value, having no other good reason to believe otherwise.

same here, except quite shocking. different senses of humor.

Here I have to agree with what lj said. if the sister did die in the WTC, then terrible. But if I put myself in J's shoes, and my sister who I know didn't die in WTC were the subject of the same remarks, I would still find them crude, offensive and unfunny. The actual facts about the sister doesn't change that for me.

Beats me, but it is. Otherwise the "She'd dead, you jerk!" response wouldn't have the power that it does. If it's a WTC death, then that just adds to the power. Probably because it's a national loss in addition to the personal one. It's almost sacred.

For the record, I don't think it's true, so it doesn't matter.

A buddy made a crack about my grandmother the other day. She died of cancer. Did I make a big deal about it? No. Did it make me think about her and miss her for a awhile? Sure. But my friend didn't know and it really didn't matter. HE WAS MAKING A JOKE! Dead grandmother aside, it was funny. There was no need for him to feel bad about it. My uncle was a paramedic who died in the line of duty. Does that make all paramedic jokes or uncle jokes off limits? No. My wife has died on the operating table. Twice. But both times was brought back (srsly) and, probably, will not live to get really old with me. Does that mean I don't joke with her about her dying so I can hook up with some hot nanny I would hire to take care of the kids? No. SHE STILL HAS A SENSE OF HUMOR!

Jeb - if you sister died, that is sad. Sorry for your loss, but if you really think that lj was making a real crack about your actual sister, you have some serious growing up to do. My guess is that he didn't even know you had a sister.

I am not defending lj here. He is a bid boy and can obviously do that on his own. I just think think you need some perspective.

I agree. It's not a comment I would make, but the guy did insult LJ earlier and it was a comeback.

Points for continuity, but passes caught while out of bounds do not advance the ball.

Hm. Is that a valid defense in the House of glatt when a dispute arises among the children? should lj be held to that standard? A higher one?

Why? You have absolutely no factual basis that it's true or not true.

See, it's still horribly crude. It's still not funny. Still caught, still out of bounds. Thankfully, it is not my job or my quest to teach you manners. You have your manners. I find some of them funny, some of them crude. On the balance, I like you. But I like you *despite* shit like this, not because of it.

Which means that your other qualities are superlative, because I find this part of you reprehensible.

I have no idea if that's true or not, but it doesn't effect Glatt's statement. What he said has no basis in reason. Then again, maybe Glatt is one of your sock puppets. In fact every poster on here could be one of your sock puppets, and you could be Tyler Durden, for all I know.

My factual basis is that the "standard" response to "your mama" jokes is to say "she's dead, you jerk." This is simple comedy 101. It's in the book. Look it up. I've known this fact for at least 25 years.
