Sounds Of The Season

Been hearing a lot of holiday tunes in the last couple of weeks, and many songs put me in the spirit of the season (and some take me back to childhood). Here are a few that have transported me back in time:

1) "Holly Jolly Christmas" Burl Ives
2) "Happy Christmas (War Is Over)" John Lennon/Yoko Ono
3) "Wonderful Christmas Time" Paul McCartney
4) "Little Drummer Boy" Harry Simeone Chorale
5) "The Christmas Song" Nat King Cole
6) "Jingle Bell Rock" Bobby Helms
7) "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree" Brenda Lee
8) "Jingle Bells" The Barking Dog version
9) "The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late)"
10) "Sleigh Ride" Arthur Fiedler & The Boston Pops Orchestra
11) "Feliz Navidad" José Feliciano
12) "Christmas Time Is Here" Vince Guaraldi (From 'A Charlie Brown Christmas')
13) "Blue Christmas" Elvis Presley
14) "Little Saint Nick" Beach Boys
15) "Someday At Christmas" Stevie Wonder
16) "Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town" The Jacksons (also Bruce Springsteen's version)
17) "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer" Elmo & Patsy
18) "Do They Know It's Christmas" Band Aid
19) "Last Christmas" George Michael
20) "Carol Of The Bells" La Petite Bande de Montreal

Hm...I think that'll do it. Wow, that's like my ultimate Christmas CD!

Anyone else?

Twelve pains of Christmas by the Bob Rivers comedy group. Because its so true.

Good list. I usually like Christmas music but by the time Christmas actually rolls around I'm sick of it until next year.

I have played live Christmas music for the past seven or eight years now. Try beginning rehearsals in August sometime and see how sick you get of Xmas music...AAAAAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!

Ahhh I can't stand the early (and earlier and earlier) deluge of Christmas music every year. The only way I survive is with all the song parodies. The 12 Pains fo Christmas is one of my favorites. But, also check out Chipmunks Roasting on an Open Fire, also by Bob Rivers.

It ain't Christmas until I hear me some Singing Dogs.

In Philly, we have not one but TWO FM stations who started playing Christmas music non-stop in mid-November. Granted, it's probably an improvement over the drivel that those stations churn out the rest of the time, but it's still overkill and a half.

I really hate christmas music. Hate it, hate it. Doesn't help that lumberjim is a big fan either.
Don't get me wrong, I love the holiday season, just hate the music.

Ah HA! I was trying to find that last night online (I thought it was "Barking Dogs").

Yep, Sunny 104.5 and B101. I guess I've become numb about hearing the music too early..it doesn't even bother me anyone (plus, I must be in a better holiday mood this year..lol).

But basically, hearing the music early is what prompted me to come up with this idea.

"Christmas at K-Mart" by Root Boy Slim and the Sex Change Band (featuring the Root-ettes). Damn. Hard to believe it's been ten years already. *sniff*

13) "Blue Christmas" Elvis Presley

That has to be my favorite Christmas song of all time!
I play it and press repeat!
