no no no. not what i meant at all. i said AN iotd. as in ...it had been several hours and no one had replied to this ONE PARTICULAR thread. i didnt want to see it drop off the bottom with no replies, so i was just goosing it back up even though i really had nothing to say about it. UT does a fantastico job of the iotd. no complaints here, believe me.

Can we get more pics from Spain? There was a run of Spanish IotD--the running of the bulls, the great tomato-fight, the naked bicyclists...let's go back to Spain!!
...Or, Mexico!!

This picture was very intriguing for me but I am from the west where we don't do a lot of this kind of thing. I have enjoyed learning more about it from all of your posts.

Undertoad, I am sorry you are feeling burnt out. I love checking the image of the day. I have often seen the picture already but your narrative adds a special point of view.

Let me know where I can send potential IoTDs. If I have any comments I will add those. Maybe they will spark something for you.

Guess it's true...

Netcraft confirms it, IOTD is dying. One more crippling bombshell hit the already beleaguered IOTD community when IDC confirmed that IOTD market share has dropped yet again, now down to less than a fraction of 1 percent of all images. Coming on the heels of a recent Netcraft survey which plainly states that IOTD has lost more market share, this news serves to reinforce what we've known all along. IOTD is collapsing in complete disarray, as fittingly exemplified by sympathetic claims of being burnt out in the recent peanut gallery comprehensive off-the-cuff opinion test.
Ok I'm all geeked out now.

Hey, Seattle qualifies as "West" of a lot of other places, and we have this.

even keel

I don't know about skulls, but for crew shells there is sometimes just a little bit of a keel at the tail, and then the rudder. For most of the length it's sort of a semicircle. Here's a picture of a cross (very cross) section. http://www.jrshells.com/pages/jrs_vespoli_repair.html

What I found intriguing is the risk that they took. The ice could have esily drifted closed and then they would have to walk home.

I almost submitted this exact picture a few days back, but decided that it was probably too bland for most people. I, however, thought it was pretty damn cool.

I'd turn something out for you but I still haven't had time to get the kinks out of the map app.

It looks like the area below the deck is sealed off for a water tight chamber......or smuggling drugs and illegal aliens.
