Bah, Humbug!

No, Virginia, there is no longer a Santa Claus. He has become a child molester – at least as far as the Post office is concerned.

Quote:
ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Starry-eyed children writing letters to the jolly man at the North Pole this holiday season likely won't get a response from Santa Claus or his helpers.

The U.S. Postal Service is dropping a popular national program begun in 1954 in the small Alaska town of North Pole, where volunteers open and respond to thousands of letters addressed to Santa each year. Replies come with North Pole postmarks.

It's Obama's fault, part of his secret Islamic agenda to ruin Christmas.

RTFA... They're not cancelling the program, just making it harder for convicted sex offenders to get the child's name and address. Alaska is not willing to comply.

Quote:
Last year, a postal worker in Maryland recognized an Operation Santa volunteer there as a registered sex offender. The postal worker interceded before the individual could answer a child’s letter, but the Postal Service viewed the episode as a big enough scare to tighten rules in such programs nationwide.
[...]
The Postal Service began restricting its policies in such programs in 2006, including requiring volunteers to show identification.
But the Maryland incident involving the sex offender prompted additional changes, even forcing the agency to briefly suspend the Operation Santa program last year in New York and Chicago.
The agency now prohibits volunteers from having access to children’s family names and addresses, said spokeswoman Sue Brennan. The Postal Service instead redacts the last name and addresses on each letter and replaces the addresses with codes that match computerized addresses known only to the post office — and leaves it up to individual post offices if they want to go through the time-consuming effort to shield the information.
Anchorage-based agency spokeswoman Pamela Moody said dealing with the tighter restrictions is not feasible in Alaska.

Why not? What the heck else do they have to do up there? Go to Palin rallies?

This seems whacky to me.

Since when do pedophiles need to infiltrate the postal service to get a child's name and address? There are children running about all over the place. If some sick prick wants to stalk and/or abduct one, there must be scads of ways to go about it. Shit, in some places you can buy them.

Of course, the guys who wear the red suit in the shopping malls should be carefully checked and monitored.

The Post Office is going broke, it can't afford any more employees to remove addresses from the letters that a pervert volunteer might see. Only postal employees are free of perversions.

Yeah ... postal employees have a great reputation for emotional and psychological health.

Recently laid-off ex-employees, now that's another story.

The restrictions are separating the name & address from the letter, and giving it a code number, then matching the name and address with the reply letter by computer. Complicated, time consuming, expensive, and in my opinion, of dubious value.

Yeah, didn't Charles Bukowski work for the postal service? A model citizen if there ever were...

That's because they get so many ex-military. Especially the ones the military have cut loose, because they're too scary.
