I assure you ..... if alcohol wouldn't make you drunk I would never drink another drop. And consequentally never drop a drink. I mean another drink. HIC! ... Happy New Year!

I actually don't like the flavor.

Never really drank it, even when I was in college, desperate, and someone else was buying.

I have had grain, everclear, corn likker, and other varieties of alcohol you can see through. I find a G&T a pleasant summertime refresher, but don't go out of my way to buy or make them. I have avoided the whole martini fad, because many varieties of martini involve my other nemesis ... the olive. Cocktail onion availability is unreliable, and I don't really see the point of them either.

I just plain don't like vodka. It's the taste. It does really have one and it is not good.

I got horribly sick on JD as a young lass, but I still like that. I just don't try to recreate that scene with Marion near the beginning of Raiders of the Lost Ark. And yes, I did win. I didn't puke until several hours later. The loser passed out, but she really wasn't up to the challenge at that point.

I'm getting more into wine lately. My friends clearly are not. I took some red wine to a party, left it out on a counter to get back to room temperature. When I asked where it got to, I learned that I had to rescue it from the refrigerator.

They only buy sweet or fizzy wines it seems, and the idea that a beverage should not be chilled hadn't occured to them.

Ja, some beverages just aren't for some people. I couldn't stand JD for instance. And there are vodkas I hated too. Anything with a charcoal taste was automatically out. I gotta agree with BigV. If you're drinking vodka it's to get plastered. For my money hard lemonade + vodka did the job faster than anything else unless I wanted to whip out the hypodermic needle ala Mötley Crüe.

Can you really get drunker faster if you use Gatorade as a mixer? I believe that anecdotally the answer is yes, but has anyone done any serious research about this?

theoretically anything with a lot of sugar (i.e. gatorade) will heighten the effect but also add to the "i feel like shit" factor the next day.

Gatorade has 14g sugar per serving. Not a bad choice as Coke has 27g.
Ever since I started using water, (I drink blended whisky), unless I just TRY to get hammered I have no hangovers. When I used coke, sprite, etc., more than three drinks and I may as well be prepared.
OK....I think I'll have a Crown & water.

Hangovers largely result from being dehydrated + your liver being a little overworked (it recovers unless you're bad off). Anybody who knows their stuff about hydration knows about osmolality. In short your body will hold onto really salty things and let go of really sugary stuff. Perfect blend is something like Powerade with a touch more salt (Gatorade is too sugary; maybe it wasn't back when they developed it but it's mainly a consumer beverage now). So mixing stuff with gatorade or soda will get you more dehydrated at least. Not sure if it will cause any alcohol to be absorbed faster or not.

The best way to get drunk fast is to drink hard liquor of any type on an empty stomach. Works like a charm. I have heard that using a carbonated beverage as a mixer will cause the alcohol to take a more immedient effect.

But, er, alcohol gets into the system pretty quickly, anyhow. This discussion reminds me of that line "Instant gratification isn't quick enough!"

By the way, green apple martini's are pretty tasty and feature a cherry instead of the dreaded olive.
