1/30/2003: HMS York sees action

Rough sailing today? The HMS York is shown being tailed by an enormous waterspout as she sails through the Mediterranean. The shot was taken from the HMS Edinburgh, which was about four miles away.

The sailor who took the shot said: "It was very dramatic. The skies darkened and we had a terrific hailstorm, with thunder and lightning. A first tornado was followed by three more tornados, drawing up humidity and showing themselves as white waterspouts."

Those boys were probably happy they weren't on the original. Click history.

Wow, that looked like a missile at first. But that picture almost makes me believe in water demons that want to sink our ships. Angry skies, large ice-rocks from the sky, and finally a water elemental.

How is all of that history tied to the same ship?

Ships are often named for earlier boats. It gives the sailors a connection with the past helping morale etc.. I had a history Prof in college who was in the Navy during WW2. He got an invite from some British sailors to see their ship. He made it as far as the gang blank where he stopped and and spit, refusing to go aboard. I think the boat was the HMS Jackal which was named for a ship involved in some notorious action against the US.

I've been assured by Bill O'Reilly, however, that it'll all be good as soon as we knock him off his perch. Then God will side up with us.
