Thumbs up Bournemouth, England!

Ah, sunny Bournemouth. Miles of outstretched beaches, beautiful people, a southern climate and more bars per sq mile than the west end. Fashionable, intoxicated and pretentious, Bournemouth-ites are social animals with little concern about Far Away Things like human rights and The Environment. Downward social mobility is a key issue and an 18-30's style tour operator is planning local domination. But it's a wonderful place and it feels like home, so I'm staying. Does your town compare to this, or is anyone here from Bournemouth?

It's a bit spooky Tuesday, but I live in a resort town on the Somerset coast, not a million miles from you. Weston -Super- Mare, which also boasts miles and miles of 'sunkist' golden beaches, the Mendip Hills, Cheddar a few miles inland where of course we grow our own cheese and the second highest tidal fall in the world. Watch out for the undertow!

We enjoy pretty wild Saturdays in the summer when everyone between 16-25 travels here from Bristol and the Midlands to club the night away and then we nod off again, and sleep for weeks right through winter. The town could probably lay claim to a record number of Retirement/Nursing Homes should it choose, but that's balanced I guess by the families with young children moving here for 'the safety' and clean beaches. Terrorists don't come here. I was born and grew up here, then worked around the world and settled in London, then came home. It hasn't altered much. Famous sons and daughters...John Cleese and Jill Dando, the godawful Archer man. I honeymooned in Bournmouth, at The Carlton. It rained for three days!
