Me too. We'd all be beating the crap out of our computers if we went back to how slow it used to be.

I don't remember the "first" thing... I had Internet access pretty much constantly since 1987 (telnet, FTP, email, and not much else). So I remember using early Yahoo (before it was at yahoo.com), ebay, altavista, etc. etc. etc. I couldn't tell you exactly what the first thing was I looked for on google, but it was probably miscellaneous stuff in preparation for a "what you can find on the internet" workshop.

I remember watching a local news story back in the mid 90's, and they were talking about the perils of the internet, and all the seedy things you could accidentally stumble across. This was back before Google, when search engines sucked. This little old lady was being interviewed and said "All I wanted was a recipe for hot cross buns."

That's where you take a flaming cross and brand your slave on the asscheeks, right?

It's a good thing she wasn't looking for a recipe for cucumber salad to make for her granddaughter's cheerleading squad.

It's a good thing she wasn't going on vacation overseas, and trying to find an asian spa that offered facials.

It's a good thing she wasn't looking for fresh whipped cream to go atop her mound cake.
