Critical Reading vs Critical Thinking.

I've been thinking alot about what it means to be a 'critical thinker' One of the reason I enjoy this site so much is because many of the old timers seem to have a knack for critical thinking. That in itself brings an enormous amount of enjoyment for the reader. I like ideas being volleyed back and forth. What I do not like are trolls masquerading as a brain. Trolls who by posting condecending remarks think it equals smarts. Whos main aim is not to have a discussion of merit but to spark arguments and knee jerk reactions.

I prepose these people are trolls and are testing this site and should be banned. What are the parameters for knowing 'when exactly a person is testing this site?'

Please outline and define the meaning of :

a) testing this site

The meaning of that last item is of course open to interpretation. But basically, if you are a troll, attention whore, moron, spammer, single-issue hammer, or otherwise want to hurt or "test" this community, you WILL be removed and banned.
If you post a link on your first post, expect your message to disappear, and your account to be banned. If you post a message that looks like a pitch in any way, expect your message to disappear. If you post a "real" message on your first post, and a pitch message on your second, expect both messages to disappear. We are extremely effective at this, and we are paying attention.

Does posting it here indicate a desire "to have a discussion of merit" or simply "to spark argument"

I haven't noticed anyone on the board recently who would fall into conflict with any of the Cellar rules. I admit that I don't check the food and entertainment section very often but I don't think those are area's that would draw rule-breakers.

I hate that rabbit statue on the West Shore . May it continue to be covered in vulgar graffitti . Whilst on the subject of Dodgson , one should not forget his somewhat dodgy photos of little girls , which tend to verge upon paedophilia . Most unpleasant . )
