Doom III screenshots

Its been a while since I looked at the screenshots that they are putting out for Doom 3, but this game might actually be released, and I for one am frightened.

Frightened, because these screenshots gave me some of the same feelings I had when I first played Doom II. The chill down the spine... that around the next corner might be a screaming disembodied head on fire, or a spider with an upside-down human head in the middle.

Yeah, but are you going to need a Beowulf cluster of $600 video cards to play it at a decent resolution?

No. The screenshots you see are Radeon 9700 Pro on a P4. Or at least dat's what I read a while back. Mmmmmmmmm, Radeon. (I have a 9700 Pro - great investment. Whoo boy.)

They say it'll be playable on lower systems, of course. But having a mac-daddy video card doesn't hurt.

Not a spider.. spiders have eight legs, and these only have six.

I missed the "Doom 3 single-player impressions" link on the left...

We then jumped ahead to a different level, called "Alpha Labs." Here the demonic possession became more and more apparent with what Willits described as "mini-hells." These were small areas in which pulsating flesh and occasionally embedded corpses covered the steely walls of the compound. In this level, we encountered small hordes of demontrites. They were bizarre, spiderlike creatures whose bodies were gaping, upside-down human heads with bony outgrowths that acted as legs. These critters scuttled toward us with surprising speed, and, when destroyed, they tumbled backward with their legs curled up in much the same way that spiders do when tossed into a fire. We also encountered maggots--pale, two-headed, vaguely humanoid creatures with an alarming tendencies to leap extremely fast and far at us from a completely stationary position, like the fiends from the original Quake.

Geez, that sounds scary as hell.

I remember how freaked out I was at the end level to Doom II. Those mutilated half-corpses attached to the blood-streaked walls! Yikes.

Fortunately, after my months of toiling in the desert, I should be able to afford a rather pimpin' system when I get back.

I bear no will towards Doom 3, good or bad. I just couldn't let this thread slip without bringing P-A to the table.
