Pete Townsend Arrested

Apparently he's claiming that he was doing research for his autobiography. Instead he got himself a whole new chapter.

This last year, the Who seemed to be trying to figure out "what".

(I was a little tired of the media coverage of Entwistle's death and the prostitute tale. )

cheers

This is depressing...The Who is my favorite band of all time, and Townshend my favorite guitarist.

I really hate it when my heroes get arrested for suspicion of possessing child pornography.

I hope he is found innocent *if* he is innocent. If guilty, then he needs to be punished. Child porn is not a good thing for kids as far as I can see. Adults who produce and consume it can't be punished enough to suit me.

It doesn't matter if he's innocent or not, unfortunately. The accusation is as damaging as the actual offense.

Agreed. He's done, no matter what the outcome. Sad ending for a brilliant artist. Now I *really* feel old. First, Entwistle dies (my favorite bass player, natch) and we find out it was partly because he was fucking stupid and was doing coke with a heart condition like he was still some 20 year old Mod instead of a very mature overweight British male...

Also, I wasn't affected this way when they busted Pee Wee Herman. I mean, when they said Pee Wee was a pedophile I just sort of felt like all of the sudden that the whole Pee Wee's Playhouse thing made more sense.

In reading the entire article about Townshend, it seems he is suspected of possessing, creating and conspiring to distribute kiddy porn. This is a lot worse than simply having it, legal-wise, I would think.

Was he allegedly searching for pictures of a deaf, dumb and blind kid?

All he has to say is he was just doing a favor and downloading things for his good friend and fellow musician... Michael Jackson.

I haven't heard his colorful past brought up yet, which I guess is a good thing.

Why does child porn get federal prosecution but Priests actually abusing children is all but ignored by federal authorities? Or is this just another example of who has bigger buck to contribute?

In response to no response from the Catholic Church, the NY Times did a survey of priest child molestation. They found both molestation and coverup in every diocese in America. Every one. That is actual child molestation - making child pornography trivial by comparision. The FBI goes after those who might look at pictures but ignored those who have actually done the crime? What kind of double standard is this?

Pete Townsend might be a terrorist but priests who molest kids are not terrorists? Is that the criteria that determines who gets prosecuted?

I know Paul Reubens casually, and it was very annoying to find out that he was being harrassed yet again about his alleged porn collection.

It's as if the media morons decide to go after someone to help boost sales...I can see the assignment desk now,
"Hmm, Corey....which one? Oh yes, the married one...let's post something about his drug habits."
"But sir, he's off drugs"
"It doesn't have to be RECENT."

Paul is a decent guy with a sex drive that includes fantasy. He had no idea a website misrepresented someone as over 18 when she was not. Traci Lords fooled millions of people, and I don't recall seeing millions of people plastered all over our local newscasts for the viewing her films. Which is more obscene, I wonder, the media's portrayal of a person's acts or the acts themselves?

(That said, I do agree what the other person posted that the child pornography realm is over the top and should be punishable. But, making an example of someone like Paul, when there are politicians, and dare I say, newscasters committing those same acts, is deplorable.)

Cheers

the Froon
