New Music

Hey guys. I was just wondering if any of you have heard of any new bands that sounded good?

I have reached the stage in life where I don't really get to listen to or discover new bands anymore.

I just listen to bootleg CDs of the old ones now.

depends on what style(s) of music you like, here are some of the ones that have blown my socks off

rise against (melodic punk)
lucero (alt. country)
thrice (bad ass neo-metal)
thursday (screamo)
explosions in the sky (rockin' instrumental)
the short fuses (pop-punk)
the high fives (pop-punk.. sorta)
victory at sea (brooding chick rock)
kill creek (brooding guy rock/weird alt stuff later)
captured by robots (although you ought to go SEE the show)
sticky nickel (one man band.. great stuff)
two thirty eight (brooding post punk)
red letter day (pop-punk)

Hmmm...nah, no one that new. The last new artist I got into was probably Jill Scott.

The Killers and Keane - they rule... they have been hot in the UK for awhile and are just starting to come over here.

Band names are certainly more interesting than when I was younger.

Bands that have recently blown my gourd:

The Postal Service (synth driven emo/dream pop)
The Crabs (pleasant deconstructionalist pop-primitive)
Atom and His Package (pure rock goodness)
Richard Cheese (lounge covers of modern songs...utterly entertaining)
Leftover Crack (angry commie punk rock)
Boysetsfire (emocore)
Thursday (see boysetsfire)
Richard Buckner (guy + guitar, very soulful and introspective)
Jack Johnson (the best I can come up with for him is Surf Blues....melancholy and deep, but with a laid-back feel)
The Kinks (not new, but worth checking out...if The Who are punk rock's grandfathers, The Kinks are punk rock's scary uncle that we don't talk about)
Bright Eyes (headed by Conor Oberst, an absolutely damaged person. Bright Eyes is good for when you just feel like having a good, aimless cry)

Also note: When you're old enough that you don't listen to any new bands, you've pretty much died. Everyone needs new music every once in a while.

No, it justs means that going out, picking through and finding good music takes more time and effort than you're willing to devote to it. Some people have lives other than new music, thankyouverymuch.

Hey Steve, could you PM me your address? It sounds like you need a good ass-whipping, and I'd be happy to give it to you.

I'm pretty open-minded when it comes to music, but I haven't heard much new stuff that I really like. *shrugs*

I'm pretty much resigned to working on being an old fogey at this point. My nostalgia sustains me, however.
