Actually, it was eerliy quiet. Really. The barriers didn't make much noise, we didn't hit anything hard and there was no other traffic around when we got out. And we were just spinning.

Nothing like as loud as your downtown 10mph fender bender (and yes, they can be loud).

Judging by the photo, that was nearly a text-book "safe" crash.
The barrier had a little give in it, the car has taken bump after bump on its cruple zones, and so all the energy was absorbed and used up. The rigid passenger shell is unharmed, as are the passengers. Good car.

Except that the wires of the barrier were supposed to catch us, but we slipped through and ended in the oncoming lanes. the Sherrif was pissed because these were new barriers and we were the first to test them ...and they failed. Apparently, 15 other crashes requiring towing in that area that day.

The emergency services were pretty impressed. And yes, we did bring them out. Eventually. I called 911 as soon as Hebe had stepped out of the car. She asked me if I had a preference for a tow truck. i'm like well I have AAA but I really think you mostly want to get the police here and get it out of the way. Seems like she thought I was just trying to get faster service or something. She called me 5-10 minutes later and said "they won't tow you on AAA unless you call them yourselves" (meanwhile shitload of traffic is steering round, people on both sides stopping to check we're OK and to tell us to stay away from the car....) I said there's no police here yet.... and she was "oh, I thought your car was on the median....."
two minutes later max, cop pulls up. We end up with three cop cars, two fire trucks (gas all over the road), fire chief's truck, tow truck and a couple we don't know why they're there......

No traffic though. And was mostly on the shoulder. Woulda scared the shit out of anything oncoming and probably caused more accidents. So very lucky.

That’s really tough luck! Still, glad to know you’re safe, have adequate car insurance and that you have the support of other people. It could have been a lot worse.
