What is this tree and what are these berries?

This tree grew spontaneously in my back yard, around the tree that was actually planned for that area but died. For years it shared space with a pine tree but this year the pine finally died for certain. Now this tree is doing great.

But Jacquelita ate some of these berries just now (the ripe dark ones not the red ones) and I need to know if she is going to die.

Thanks in advance

no, but jinx says that she used to have those trees in her back yard, and if jaquelita(like the birds that used to eat them) shits on your car it's going to stain.

Yup. I've got a boatload of mulberry volunteer trees on my fence line. Birds seem to not like them much.

To make 5 gallons of wine it takes around 15 lbs berries.

We have a mulberry tree just outside our back door. Three weeks out of the year, I want to cut the damn thing down. The berries stain everything, and you track them into the house all over the kitchen floor. The rest of the year, it's a beautiful tree.

You can eat the berries. They are a little sour. If you eat too many, you will get an upset stomach. I understand you can use tons of sugar with them to make jams, pies, etc. Not worth much, if you ask me.

Recently, I learned that if you push the kids' Little Tykes car back and forth over the berries on the ground, you can smoosh most of them into the grass, where they will dry up more quickly. If you don't smooth them, they take a week or two to dry out, and you can still track them into the house. I'm going to keep an eye out for one of those old school lawn rollers at garage sales for just this purpose.

I suspect the weasel wasn't running very fast.

Yeah, but they just eat the leaves. You'd still have all those damn berries to cope with.

I love it when the squirrels over-do the fruit and their hair gets all wet and matted down on their tails and legs... oh you know what that's really gross, I don't think I love that, even a little.

At least the squirrels don't leave it on your car and outdoor furniture.
