I gave up - Every time I do a good deed I end up getting in trouble for it - or things get worse somehow. The heck with that - I'm gonna try being selfish and mean - see how that works out. I'll keep you posted.

I helped the maint. lady clear the cig. butts from the ashtrays while I was on break outside my office. She was glad and it passed the time a little.

Drove my co-worker to the train station. He's a good guy and it helps him take the public transportation. So he can get into work with a bad hangover.

Accepted my "satisfactory" yearly rating and sub-inflation raise without making a big fuss. Nobody likes a fuss over something like that, especially if they consider you "satisfactory", i.e., 2 stars out of 4, not quite enough to make "good", the sort of employee we tolerate, a warm body type.

I went to a convenience store this morning to buy a cup of coffee on the way to work. Some guy was making his coffee next to me, then went to the counter to pay, leaving his wallet on the counter next to me. I know how much trouble it would be to cancel everything, etc, so I went to the checkout counter and asked the guy if it was his wallet back on the counter. To this he replied grumpily, "Yeah, I was going back there to get it!". No "Thank You", nothing. My good deed for today. I guess I should apologize for people like that!

If you do something nice for a friend or relative, does that classify as a good deed? I don't think so. And I like to consider everyone as a friend, so I never do any good deeds.

I stayed home from work, thereby relieving my coworkers of the need to put up with me.

You know what? I always thought of myself as a very charitable person.
What with the Brownies (Girl Scouts) and being brought up in a practical Christian family I believed I was pretty hot on the old Good Deeds front.

But I've looked at this thread a couple of times and been hard pushed to identify anything that wasn't part of work (albeit stretching my job description to the max) or part of my home life - and I can't really count things I do for HM.

Tomorrow I will attempt to do a good deed for a stranger. Ah. Yes, Saturdays are good for me - I often end up popping into Save the Children to buy a book and staying to work behind the till! At the very least I buy The Big Issue from my chap outside the Co-op. And usually get him a soft drink if it's hot (he asked for the first one).

I listened to a cow orker who is very emotionally needy or starved for attention or something go on and on about her day yesterday without cutting her off and telling her to wrap up her story. Finally though, after about 47 minutes, I had to cut her off. (My phone has a timer.)

She really doesn't have anyone to talk to in her life. I knew she was a talker and learned years ago to cut her off after a minute or two, but today I decided to just let her go. I lost patience after about 45 minutes though, and it took 2 minutes for me to find an opening to cut her off. I wonder if she is so used to being cut off in every conversation, she is unable to stop talking on her own?

So anyway, I think it was a good deed, but now talking about her behind her back negates any karma points I built up.
