The Copper Canyon Thread

At the request of Bruce, here's the Copper Canyon thread. Bit of info behind the pics: group of 18 young people from my school went on an Expedition to Mexico last July, the main phase being a 6 day trek in the copper canyon. It was hard work, trekking about 10 hours a day in 40*C heats and roasting sun, and heavy storms at night, but it was well worth it for some of the views, like this one from the first morning. We arrived late the night before, so had no idea where we were. We spent the night in cabins, and when i opened the curtains in the morning, this was the view i was treated to:

From the bottom of the canyon:
1 - A few of my friends and the canyon wall, trust me that is a LONG way up
2 - The Urike river, which we walked along the 2nd day

1 - From another group of cabins. You can see the ones we set off from on the edge of the cliff to the left of centre.
2 - Great view over the top of the canyon. There is an Tarahumara Indian village in the sort of basin near the middle of the shot.

Finally, one of my favourite shots of the sun rising through the mist on the 4th morning in the canyon. After this a few people got ill, so we only did short, optional treks and relaxed a bit. I was ok and went on all 3 short treks, but didnt get as good shots as we weren't so far into the canyon.

Wow. My school trips were nowhere near as exotic ... mainly places within a couple hours of home. Oh, and DisneyWorld. Gotta have a trip to DisneyWorld if you're in the marching band.

Billy, i have a few more, but some of them are blurred or blocked by trees, so these were my favourite ones which i thought you guys would like best.

Hmmm, brought back memories... No, I didn't hike it but I did ride a bus through this canyon back in the early 70s. Windiest, scariest road I've ever been on but the views were incredible. We stopped often (local bus, lots of people getting off and disappearing into who knows where). Just amazing. Thanks for the show!!!
