The hedgehog is Europe's answer to the porcupine, only cuter and more common. When threatened, it rolls itself into a ball so that quills are pointed outward in every direction.

Of course you could get the same effect with a white mouse, toothpicks and superglue.

hedgehogs

A friend of mine had a hedgehog....horrible little creature. Cute as the dickens, but had an odd habit of eating its own feces and/or escaping and roving about their house for days at a time. One day it escaped and they never found it again. Oh well, such is a risk when you take in small furbearers (or, in this case, spinebearers).
