An update on Sam's peripatetic career with Oregon Fish & Wildlife.
Last summer, Sam started chasing radio-tagged salmon and steelhead returning in northern Oregon's coastal rivers. (http://www.cellar.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=433) Now he is chasing radio-tagged steelhead in the Hood River of north-central Oregon, which drains Mt Hood in the middle of the Columbia River Gorge. The town of Hood River is THE center of wind-surfing, microbreweries, and several computer "data farms". ... lots of computer-techies and even more sun-chasers and with more $ than they can spend. In this first year, Sam has found more places to catch fish than most sport fishermen get a life time. He is still quite nuts about fishing, and so after a day's work in ODFW uniform, he changes into his "civies" and goes back out on the river to fish for himself. I notice that with more $ earned, he is moving up in the price of his equipment... he's now up to "Simms waders". |

The perfect job for him. It makes me happy that there are people out there living the dream.

How awesome would it be if they homed in a a cluster of radio signals thinking it was a fish conclave and instead it was just a fat bear lazing around in the sun.

Our family is now 40% lifeguard. wtg Hebe (I can't be "proud" anywhere else, she's too cool for that, but she gave up her Spring break to do the training.) And yes, she's that old. She drove home too...

Wow. It's 16 here, and with hindsight I think very few 16 year old males should be trusted with a car. Hebe is probably up to it, and that will make life easier. Go gurl.

Yes, but that's 16 Celsius, over here it's Fahrenheit, so at 15 it's Fahrenzeit!
Try the Schnitzle, I'll be here all veek!
