Thanks, Dwellars. We just stayed at home and acted quite silly. It was a good time, and no one died or went to jail.

Man. Normally Metro is pretty good.

I posted that picture when I got to the subway station, and I should have been at work 15 minutes later. Took an extra 45 minutes because of three separate issues with trains in front of me.

One was a "sick customer." Some sort of medical emergency. So that's probably not Metro's fault, unless it was someone fainting from waiting too long for the two broken down trains on a packed platform while all bundled up and overheating. I'd guess there's a 25% chance the "sick customer" was actually Metro's fault too.

It's snowy, 8 degrees, and the metro manages to move you from where you are to where you want to be, while keeping you from being killed by weather, wolves, or motorists.

But are you grateful for this salvation?

noOOooooo!

Hey glatt, be thankful you don't take London's Victoria line.
They, I presume accidently, dumped a shitload of quick setting concrete in the signaling equipment room, where they have all the relays and switches.

Sugar was poured onto the fast-setting concrete which brought a London Underground line to a standstill as contractors desperately tried to minimise the effects of the blunder, it has been reported.

The section of the Victoria Line from Warren Street to Brixton was closed after the leak damaged a signal control room at Victoria Station, causing misery to thousands of rush hour commuters.

Transport for London said the line was reopened after engineers worked "tirelessly" through the night to repair the damaged signalling equipment.

However, it has emerged that as soon as engineers realised what had happened, workers were sent to nearby supermarkets to buy bags of sugar to stop the cement from setting.

A source told the Evening Standard: “When they realised what had happened they went out and bought bags of sugar and threw it on because that stops concrete from setting as quickly.”

The embarrassing mishap occurred when engineers, who are working on a long-term upgrade of the station, poured concrete into voids in excavations for a new escalator control room when it seeped through to the control room below, the newspaper reported.

“The signalling room sits between the north and southbound tracks and it’s the main box controlling trains for the entire southern half of the line. They were pumping in concrete for an escalator tunnel down to the new platform and there must have been a crack or a hole,” the source said.

He added: “The only word for it is a f***-up of major proportions. Everyone was effing and blinding when they realised what had happened.”

Despite fears the line could have been crippled for a number of days, it was back to normal the following morning.

Apologising for the blunder, Peter McNaught, operations director for the Bakerloo, Central and Victoria lines, said: "Our engineers have worked tirelessly through the night and have successfully repaired the damaged signalling equipment.”

There is a prank in this sugar/concrete deal.
