say what you will about the french...

...they make some decent movies. most recently amelie and last night i finally saw brotherhood of the wolf. good stuff. could have been scarier and the beginning seemed a bit contrived to me, but it did turn into a fascinating story with an interesting ending.

and is it just me or is every foreign film better in its original language? its nice to have the english track, and when available, i always watch it first in english. but then i like to go back and watch it several times in the original language, because it not only looks more natural, but the performances are invariably better, even in animation (spirited away leaps immediately to mind).

IIRC, I watched Like Water for Chocolate in Spanish...and I know I've never seen it in English.

I still want to see Brotherhood of the Wolf, but I can't seem to find it.

Have you seen Le Placard / The Closet ? Now _that_ is a funny movie!

OK... I don't like most French music. I can't stand it when I have to play it on orchestra concerts.

Oh, wait, that was just the topic, not an open invitation. Never mind.

well, whatever. call them surrender monkeys if you like. i for one have always enjoyed the occasional frog-bashing, but i do think the current u.s. crybaby attitude towards them funnier than anything theyve ever done.

Brotherhood of the Wolf is pretty okay, but I can't help thinking how much better it would have looked (movie-wise) if it had a major US studio backing it. Artistically and acting wise it's awesome, but the special effects really took away from it for me.

It's also not the most exciting movie ever made, but it's enjoyable.
