Big toys

Yesterday I Got to Play with some big toys ,
A customer wanted to see How Much a Home Made test weight weighed ,
"around 200,000 lb we think "??
So we rented a 500,000 lb Cap Scale ( More technically a Dynomomenter ) and a set of 250Ton Shackles

as I said Big toys ,

Thats My Hard hat on top for scale

the dynomometer its self ,

The test weight in Question

the crane we used

as I said these are BIG Toys

It took a few hands to handle the rigging and a sky track or 2

And a few sheets of Ply wood to make the Crane man Happy

But we Lifted that Byotch !!!!!!

And it Was Heavy !!!!!
Mission accomplished , Job done , and every body kept all there fingers and toes !!!!!

Finding out the how heavy it is, probably cost more than the weight did.

True Bruce , but the systems they calibrate with that weight can make a BIG Difference in their Bottom line ,
its been a guestomation up till now ,
that little guess cost them in the neighborhood of $12M
so a few Thou to Know, is a drop in the Bucket

For some reason the safety gear tickled my funny bone. "I got tapped in the brain bucket by a 226k lb weight, good thing I was wearing my hard hat!"

Actualy the Skid Lids ( Hard hat ) make sence , i got knocked on my ass by part of a brake shoe from an over head crane about 75 or so feet above me , my Skid lid was in pieces , I was PISSED But fine .

Actually the ones with a bill, like a baseball cap, that they wear on most construction sites, are called Bump Caps. Most injuries are from bumping your head on shit, rather than falling objects.
Your style, with the 360 degree brim, are I believe called Lineman's. Good for outdoors, to ward off the Sun, rain, and shit dropped by the guy up the pole you're working next to... and the guy going to kick the shit out of after work.

Yeppers Bruce My style hard hat keeps some of the sun and rain off my neck , Also in the spring I paint it silver to keep 1-2 degrees of heat off of my head in the summer sun . Oh a dew rag is in order ( I know im a white boy ,But it keeps a few degrees on yer head in the winter and when it soaks in sweat in the summer it helps cool yer knoggen down a bit , besides you can experss your self with the design or pattern on it )

I have one like that made of aluminum, that Philadelphia Electric was getting rid of when they changed to non-conducting Micarta. Now they're all plastic.
