This week my nephew just bought a 1997 Saturn sedan for US$3,200.

With only 33,000 miles it was in great condition and a real bargain.

That's a truly amazing price.
Maybe you should check the trunk for sniping ports.

Talking about an impending war sucks...let's talk about something that can be fun...cars.

I'm normally not a fan of SUVs, and I may never be able to afford it, but I want this vehicle:

Hey, when you finally getting that drivers license?

I'm sorry...it's a sweet ride. The H1 looks *too* militaryish. I did build one though...$116K. Ouch!

It's not quite the car of my dreams, but it will be my car...in April or May. (My brother has to give it a once-over and stick a water pump in it.)

(This isn't my actual car...photo courtesy of BC Auto Sales, Prince George, BC. Close enough though.)

Is that paint gradient built-in, or is it just road salt?

At first, I thought it was a gradient, but in looking at it closer, I'm going with salt.

They want $4000 US for the pictured car ($5850 Can.). It looks nice enough, and it only has 95K km on it (59k miles). And that's right about the value of the car, according to the NADA guide.

On the other hand, I'm only paying $500-600 for mine, so I can't complain.

Unhappy

My brother had a mechanic-friend of ours give the car a serious once-over...

Blown head gasket, $600 to repair it.

Upon my mom telling me this, I said, "Tell the guy I'll give him $100 for it."

Back to wishing...

Small world. I own a 92 Sunbird convertible with the 3.1 v6 engine. It's a TON of fun to drive, and has been pretty damn dependable. I'm thinking of giving it up, though, because I need to replace the roof, and the cost of it would be more than the value of the car. Heh.

Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce my soon-to-be new car:

The grocery getter...1994 Ford Escort LX wagon, with 78,000 miles

My mom purchased the car brand new in late '94...I remember when it had all of 51 miles on it. It was my main mode of transportation when I was sans car in 1996 and 1997, so we have history...

--I put the first major dent in it. I ran over a large rock on Interstate 170 in St. Louis, which flipped up and hit just under the passenger door.

--I put the first cigarette burns in it.

--It had a wheel stolen off it in 1996, while I was hanging out in the University City Loop. (They left the hubcap, but took the fucking wheel! It cost me almost $200 to replace the wheel and the tire.)

--It was puked in by not one, but two of my friends.

--I've taken it on several road trips, including one to Chicago and Wisconsin in 1997.

My mom babies the shit out of this car. It gets all the regular maintenance, and has had only a few problems, which all occurred under warranty (airbag, gear shifter). And she just got a new exhaust system put on it.

And it's mine for $700, which I don't have to pay off until September.

I am so fucking stoked. This car gets great gas mileage, handles great, and gives us a car with some room in it. And it has a relatively new stereo with a CD player in it.

And I get it when I go home in 2 weeks. My mom got approved for the financing for her new car yesterday (a 2003 Malibu), so she'll be getting that sometime next week.

Whoohoo!
