I do that. I also lie uncovered until I start feeling cooler, then I cover up, and stick that foot out. Sometimes the whole leg. I sleep better when a little on the cool side.

I worry about monsters myself. That's why god invented swamp coolers. Mine allows me to sleep in a pleasently cool room - no foot in mouth required.
