We've got another one coming up, too...so make sure and hit those Wal Mart registry computers real quick for your gift giving planning. Myself, I've registered Geritol, Dr. Scholl's and Depends.

Yeah, tell my boss to give me a raise from $7.50/hr after 4 years of loyal work and I'll get right on that

No prob. I'll tell the SOB what's what and who's who...what's his email address?

I'm pretty sure you'll have a tidy raise in no time. Either that, or you'll be unemployed.

  • 1536 - King Henry VIII orders Bible be placed in every church.
  • 1682 - Louis XIV of France moves his court to Versailles.
  • 1937 - Hindenburg disaster: The German zeppelin Hindenburg catches fire and is destroyed within a minute while attempting to dock at Lakehurst, New Jersey. Thirty-six people are killed.

births -
  • 1397 - King Sejong the Great, inventor of the Korean alphabet (d. 1450)
  • 1758 - Maximilien Robespierre, French Revolutionary (d. 1794)
  • 1856 - Sigmund Freud, Austrian psychiatrist (d. 1939)
  • 1915 - Orson Welles, American director (d. 1985)
  • 1931 - Willie Mays, baseball player
  • 1937 - Rubin 'Hurricane' Carter, American boxer
  • 1945 - Bob Seger, American singer
  • 1953 - Tony Blair, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom
  • 1961 - George Clooney, American actor

deaths -
  • 1862 - Henry David Thoreau, American author and philosopher (b. 1817)
  • 1910 - King Edward VII of the United Kingdom (b. 1841)
  • 1992 - Marlene Dietrich, German actress (b. 1901)
  • 1995 - Maria Pia de Saxe-Coburg-Gotha-Braganca (b. 1907)
  • 2002 - Pim Fortuyn, Dutch politician (assassinated) (b. 1948)

All of this stolen from Wikipedia's wonderful calendar feature.

And for me reading glasses. I'm always pushing mine to the top of my head, and searching frantically around for them, a spare pair would be nice. I could then walk around the house with TWO pairs of reading glasses on top of my head, wondering where I'd misplaced them.

Oh, and big bottles of aspirin for my arthritis. A walker would be nice, but I could make do with a cane in a pinch (good for clubbing boy scouts attempting to help me across the street)!

Also excluded from BigV's numbers are.....BigV's age! (Unless I've missed it somewhere). He said to just do the math. Let's see...elder SonofV just went to college....my son turned 18 this year and I'm 46......so you're about 46 BigV?

(I assume he's probably younger since I had my son at 27 and my daughter at 30, but I thought doing the math and making him 46 might make him reveal his true age!)

Capnhowdy's B-day is May 12, 1954. Never thought I'd disclose that on this (or any) site. And yes I'm a geezer. I'm considering posting my pic on the members list but I hate questions about what happened to my legs........
